The Makandura Library, WUSL, has entered a new chapter with its relocation to the second floor of the Mult Designated Centre at the Makandura premises. The new library was officially opened by Prof. EMP Ekanayake, Vice-Chancellor of WUSL, with WM Thusithakumari, Acting Librarian, joining the Vice-Chancellor in the opening ceremony on 21 August 2026, marking a memorable occasion in the academic life of the Makandura community.
The simple yet graceful opening ceremony was held in parallel with the 69th Library Committee meeting at the new library premises. The occasion was honored by the presence of the two Deans of the Makandura premises, Prof. KGMCPB Gajanayake of FAPM and Prof. Gamika A Prathapasinghe of FLFN, together with Prof. MMDR Deegahawatura of FAS, Prof. SK Gamage of FBSF, faculty representatives from the six faculties of the University, the Senior Assistant Librarian/MKD, Assistant Librarian/Main Library, Deputy Bursar/Supplies, Senior Assistant Registrar/Library Services, Systems Analyst/WULN and members of the Makandura Library staff.
Though simple and brief, the opening was peaceful, elegant, and meaningful, reflecting the welcoming atmosphere of the new Makandura Library. More than a relocated facility, it is a quiet space for reading, self-study, research, reflection, and discovery.
As the heart of academic life, a university library connects students and researchers with knowledge, ideas, and opportunities for lifelong learning, supporting their intellectual and professional growth.
As Francis Bacon wisely said, “Knowledge itself is power.” The new Makandura Library is a gateway to that power – a place that inspires learning, research, skill development, and academic excellence within the WUSL community.
